Alesha: I was so down.. then a lightbulb went off ..I made things happen

Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon told yesterday how the hit show saved her life.

She revealed that before the contest she was on the brink of despair after losing her cheating husband to another woman and being dumped by her record label.

Alesha, 29, admitted: "It was the lowest point of my life. I just kept thinking, 'What have I done to deserve this?' I didn't see the point in living."

She added: "Last Christmas was a real low. Anyone who knows me knows that my music career and marriage were the most important things. And I lost them within two weeks of each other.

"I believe in karma - and I sat there thinking, 'I must have done something'. I'd been sitting on my couch and I was down all the time.

"But one evening a lightbulb went off in my head and the next morning I started making calls, starting to make things happen."

Once she made the decision to appear on the BBC1 show Alesha never looked back. She said: "Look at me now. I've learned to dance. I'm happy and I believe it was meant to happen." The former Mis-teeq singer added: "It has given me a new zest. Life is short. We should all grasp it."

She has even found it in her heart to forgive ex-husband MC Harvey for cheating on her. She said: "We're adults and we're dealing with it as maturely as two people can.

"He wished me good luck and said I would be brilliant on Strictly."

Alesha and partner Matthew Cutler took the title on Saturday night in a thrilling dance-off with rival Matt Di Angelo, 20 - watched by more than 12 million viewers.

Now she says her only problem is a pair of swollen, aching feet.
